1 Corinthians 12
These gifts are for our edification, exhortation and admonishment
The gifts of Holy Spirit are essential to the body of Christ
The gifts of healing are supernatural empowerment's by the Spirit to restore physical, emotional, or spiritual health to individuals, serving as a sign of God's compassion and the presence of His kingdom.
The spiritual gift of faith is a supernatural, Spirit-given assurance that empowers a believer to trust God with extraordinary confidence for the manifestation of His power and the fulfillment of His promises in specific, often impossible, circumstances.
The speaking gifts are the voice of the Holy Spirit expressed through a yielded vessel. Through them, the Spirit communicates truth, prayer, and revelation to the church.
Prophecy
Prophecy is the Spirit of God speaking a clear message through a believer in a known language so that the people may understand. It brings encouragement, strengthening, and direction to the body of Christ.
“But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.” (1 Corinthians 14:3 NKJV)
Different Kinds of Tongues
This gift is the supernatural ability to speak in languages given by the Spirit that the speaker has not learned. These tongues are directed to God and carry mysteries of the Spirit.
“For he who speaks in a tongue does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries.” (1 Corinthians 14:2 NKJV)
Interpretation of Tongues
This gift is the Spirit-given ability to reveal the meaning of what was spoken in tongues so the church may understand and be strengthened. It does not translate word-for-word but conveys the message the Spirit intends.
“Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret.” (1 Corinthians 14:13 NKJV)
Together these speaking gifts allow the voice of the Spirit to be heard clearly within the gathered body of believers.
Prophecy is the Holy Spirit speaking through a yielded believer in a language understood by the hearers. It is not human opinion or imagination, but a Spirit-inspired message given to strengthen, encourage, and comfort the people of God. Through prophecy, the Lord brings clarity, conviction, and direction to His church.
“But he who prophesies speaks edification and exhortation and comfort to men.” (1 Corinthians 14:3 NKJV)
Prophecy does not replace the written Word of God; rather, it confirms and applies the truth of Scripture to a present moment. When the Spirit speaks prophetically, hearts are stirred, faith is strengthened, and the presence of God becomes evident among His people.
“But if all prophesy, and an unbeliever or an uninformed person comes in, he is convinced by all… and thus the secrets of his heart are revealed; and so, falling down on his face, he will worship God and report that God is truly among you.” (1 Corinthians 14:24–25 NKJV)
Heaven and earth will pass away, but My words will never pass away."
